Short CV

Frederik Gailly holds a master degree in Applied Economic Sciences (UGent, 2001) and Applied Computer Science (VUB, 2008). In December 2008 he obtained the degree of Doctor in Applied Economic Sciences.

Frederik Gailly started his academic career as a junior research assistant in 2002 under the supervision of Prof. Poels and Prof Paemeleire. After successfully defending his PhD in December 2008, he became a doctoral assistant in the same department.  From October 1, 2009 until October 1, 2012 he holds a postdoctoral fellowship from the FWO. After 1 year holding this postdoctoral fellowship he moved from the UGent to the VUB where he was appointed as an assistant professor. After working two years he returned to UGent and became an Assistant Professor at The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. In oktober 2017 Frederik Gailly was promoted to Associate Professor.

Frederik Gailly research focuses on enterprise ontologies and on how they can be applied in the context of conceptual modelling. This research focus has resulted in the reengineering of existing enterprise ontologies (e.g. the Resource Event Agent Enterprise ontology), the development of ontology-based conceptual modelling approaches and the evaluation and integration of enterprise modelling languages.  He has supervised 3 successfully finished Phd’s. Currently Frederik Gailly is (co)-supervising 2  PhD projects.

Frederik Gailly has published in Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Expert Systems with Applications, Business and Information Systems Engineering, Health Systems, Journal of Information Systems (JIS) and Information Systems Journal (ISJ). He has been guest editor for a special issue on Process Modelling for the International Journal of Accounting Information Systems (IJAIS) and has presented his work in some well-known high-quality academic conferences in Business Informatics (e.g. CAISE, Conceptual Modeling, ICEIS).
